Welcome to the website of FACETE, a workshop held at PoEM conference that focuses on the role of capabilities and aims to bring together academics and practitioners who are passionate about growing the research field and forging collaborations.
The workshop in a nutshell
The International Workshop on the Foundations and Applications of Capabilities in Enterprises, and Transformations and ESG Initiatives seeks to bridge the gap between the theory and practice of capability mapping, a pivotal tool in Enterprise Architecture and transformations. The workshop aims to consolidate divergent perspectives on the scientific foundations of capability mapping, including its ontology, meta-models, and notations, and seeks empirical studies into its practical applications, notably in strategic and digital transformations and ESG initiatives. Accepted contributions will be the basis for active, discussion-oriented sessions, fostering collaborative research and constructive discourse. The workshop's ultimate goal is to strengthen the academic underpinning of capability mapping and broaden its practical applications. In order to realize this, the workshop will extend the call for contributions towards practitioners. With a keen focus on open discussions and practical presentations, it aims to foster a vibrant community committed to defining, understanding, and applying capability mapping in various contexts.
Meet the chairs
Prof. Dr. Geert Poels
Professor, Dept. Business Informatics and Operations Management, Ghent University, Belgium.
Geert Poels is senior full professor of business informatics at Ghent University. He directs a research group that includes four full-time professors, one part-time professor, and over twenty post-doctoral and doctoral researchers. He investigates topics in Enterprise Modelling, Engineering, and Architecture (EMEA); Business Process Management (BPM); Requirements Engineering (RE); Ontology-Driven Conceptual Modelling; IT Governance; and Privacy and Data Protection. He is also supervisor of two ongoing doctoral research projects in agile ISE, on NLP-based model generation from BDD scenarios and on detecting and resolving ambiguity in user stories. Geert was PC Chair of CAiSE 2022 and IEEE CBI 2022.
Jonas Van Riel
1. PhD researcher, Dept. Business Informatics and Operations Management, Ghent University, Belgium. 2. Program director Msc in Enterprise Architecture program, IC institute, Beerzel, Belgium. 3. Enterprise Architect, INNOCOM, Beerzel, Belgium.
Jonas is a PhD candidate at Ghent University under the supervision of Prof. Dr. Geert Poels. His research focuses on applying capability maps as a means to improve Strategy Execution and (Digital) Transformations. Jonas has been Program Director of a MsC program for the past 6 year, Master of Enterprise Architecture, which focuses on the theory and practice of Enterprise Architecture (EA). Next to this, he is a practitioner active in the field of EA and has been involved in Digital Transformation tracks and practicing Architecture for almost 15 years.
Rodrigo Fernandes Calhau
PhD researcher, University of Twente, The Netherlands
Rodrigo is a researcher and lecturer of Software Engineering at the Federal Institute of Espirito Santo (Brazil), in the Leds Research Group. He has a bachelor's and master's in Computer Science from the Federal University of Espírito Santo and has been coursing a Ph.D. at the Federal University of Espirito Santo (Brazil) and University of Twente (The Netherlands) in the Semantics, Cyber-security, and Service Group (SCS). His research includes the ontological foundation of human and social capabilities; the ontological foundation of systems and emergence phenomenon; ontology-based competence and capability modeling in the enterprise architecture context; system integration and interoperability.
